E: Outreach Activities: A brief description of all outreach activities performed during the past year.
Internships - CMU Public Radio News:
Central Michigan University students gain experience in the broadcasting field working as reporters in the News Department under the supervision of the News Director. Their stories supplement the newscast and news
feature portions of the daily program contenct for the CMU Public Radio Network. The practical experience compliments specific news broadcasting courses in the university's Broadcasting and Cinematic Arts
Department.
Training Students as On-Air Radio Hosts:
Under the guidance and supervision of full-time radio staff, CMU students gain practical experience as on-air hosts for late evening and weekend programs broadcast over the CMU Public Radio Network. These
students learn to operate the radio moaster control, receive scheduled feeds from program sources, and produce their own programs during certain times of the day.
Training Students in Station Promotions:
Under the supervision of the Communications Coordinator, CMU students learn many aspects of public relations, including preparing press releases, drafting copy, and assisting with other promotion efforts. These
students many times are majoring in public relations and use their experience at CMU Public Radio to enhance their coursework.
Outreach Activities:
10/17/06 Gave a fifty minute tour of station to group of CMU students in "Intro to Journalism & Mass Media" class. Tour covered operational areas and explanation of FM news producer.
Discussed new production truck with its satellite and microwave capabilities. Eighteen to twenty students in attendance, plus instructor.
