WCMU is part of an effort to mobilize children to write and illustrate their own stories
CMU Public Television announces its local participation in the 2010 PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest, a national competition designed to promote the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on, active learning. The effort encourages children in grades K-3 in the CMU Public Television coverage area and communities across the country to celebrate the power of creating stories and illustrations by submitting their own original stories and illustrations. Contest rules and entry forms, as well as a writing guide, are posted on this website. Story submissions must be postmarked by March 15.
CMU Public Television will actively partner with schools, public libraries and other literacy organizations to implement the contest. Children will be encouraged to write and illustrate stories and submit them to CMU Public Television, which will select winners and award prizes. First place winners and their families will be invited to the CMU Public Broadcasting Center to be interviewed on CMU Public Radio, videotaped reading their stories for a television feature and entertained at a bowling/pizza party on the CMU campus. First place local winners will also be entered into the national level of the contest where a renowned panel of judges will identify the national winners. Winners will be announced and national prizes, including laptops, digital cameras and MP3 players will be awarded in summer 2010.
Entries will be accepted from January 27, 2010 through March 15, 2010. Rules and entry forms are available by clicking on the links provided below or call (989) 774-3105.
