Farming is expensive. And this year, it‘s gotten even pricier with the rising cost of fertilizer and fuel. Equipment prices have also reached historic highs.

Because of that, as WCMU's Emma George-Griffin explains, many farmers are choosing to fix their old tractors and combines instead of buying new.

Also on the show, a petition to recall Antrim County Clerk Victoria Bishop was again denied this week by the Board of State Canvassers; a potentially deadly case of a mosquito-borne illness has turned up in northern Michigan; the Trump administration is looking to roll back a rule that could impact 16,000 acres of protected land in Michigan's three national forests; and the nurses' union in Alma as unable to reach a new contract agreement with MyMichigan Health.
