Created by artist Mary E. Burns, the exhibit features 29 handwoven jacquard portraits celebrating scientists, activists, educators, artists, and Indigenous water protectors from more than 20 countries. Through intricate textile art, the exhibition explores the universal importance of water and the women whose work helps sustain and protect this essential resource.

The exhibition will be on display on the Petoskey District Library's second floor from August 27 through October 15, 2026. Throughout its run, the library will offer docent-led tours, related programs, book displays, and community conversations that explore themes of water, environmental stewardship, Indigenous knowledge, and women's leadership.

Revisit the retro art of crocheting granny squares with instructor Judy Ostrander in this beginner-friendly crochet workshop. Students will learn how to create colorful fiber art pieces that can be used in numerous ways. Make a potholder, coaster, blanket, or upcycle your favorite jeans to incorporate granny square pockets! The possibilities are endless. Granny squares are a great way to use scraps of yarn from prior projects. We’ll provide assorted acrylic yarns to choose from, but students should bring their own crochet hook (size H) and any additional yarn scraps in their colors of choice.

This workshop will be held from 5:30-7:30 pm on Thursday, October 1 in the Brannan Family Meeting Room at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant.

Recommended age: 13 and up

Basic crochet experience is helpful, but not necessary. In the beginning, it’s all about getting comfortable holding your crochet hook, consistency, and patience.

Brews & Brushes is the perfect way to unwind, get creative, and enjoy a fun evening out. This monthly acrylic painting class is led by Brenda O’Brien, who provides step-by-step instructions to help you create a beautiful 16x20 masterpiece, no matter your skill level. Bring your favorite beverage, invite a friend, and let your imagination flow! We provide all the supplies you need; just come ready to paint and leave with a finished work of art. Brews & Brushes is a great way to explore your artistic side in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

Explore the world of theater, improv, and more with Mount Pleasant’s own Tena Gilbreath, a professional actress in Hollywood theatre and Second City improv. Students ages 13-18 can gain insight into the theater world and learn the fundamentals of acting through improvisation, scene work, voice acting, character development, and performance techniques. You’ll gain confidence in public speaking, storytelling, and exercising creativity while having fun in a supportive environment. Expect to improve your acting technique and build performance experience through creative exercises and theater games, culminating in a showcase of your skills at the final session.

This 6-week course will be held from 6-9 pm on Thursdays, September 10-October 15, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway, Mt. Pleasant, MI.

Recommended age: 13-18

A snack will be provided midway through each session. Students with food sensitivities should bring a snack from home.

Jared Cook, Organist--Minister of Music, Trinity Episcopal Church, Grand Ledge, Michigan, and an international flight attendant for Delta Airlines. He is a graduate of Rice University and McGill University and has performed throughout the United States and in Europe.

Bring on the pumpkin spice this fall with some deliciously scented handmade suds & scents! Instructor Kim Bigard will lead you in an autumnal excursion creating handcrafted soy jar candles and cold-process soapmaking. Selecting from an assortment of seasonal, floral, or food-forward scents, participants can match their creations to their individual preferences. Students will leave with a 24oz soy candle and a 1 lb. batch of vegan cold process soap. This is perfect for a fun afternoon out with friends or family, or to create special handmade gifts for loved ones.

The Northport Arts Association is proud to present Shape, Form & Light, our 10-Year Anniversary Member Exhibit, launching Saturday, October 3rd with an Opening Reception from 5–7pm at the Village Arts Building (301 N. Mill St., Northport, MI).

The Opening Reception is free and open to the public, featuring complimentary appetizers and a cash bar. The exhibit will run from October 6 - 31, gallery hours Tuesday through Sunday, 12–4 PM.

The spookiest event of the year is coming to Houghton Lake! Imperial Wrestling Entertainment presents Ring of the Living Dead part IV on Saturday, October 3rd! Wear your best costume and come on out for a great, affordable night of pro wrestling for the whole family!
