Emergency personnel were deployed to U.S. Coast Guard Station Saginaw River on Tuesday after following reports of a possible sinkhole underneath the station.
The base is located in Essexville, Michigan.
A spokesperson for the Coast Guard told WCMU the flood in the station's galley, or kitchen area, had lowered about two inches below its typical level.
Soon after the depression was reported, the gas line in the affected area was secured and the local fire department was alerted to the situation.
The Coast Guard said guardsmen on duty at the time were relocated to a different building on the base. No injuries have been reported.
"Currently there are no loss of response capabilities," a spokesperson from the Coast Guard said. "Station Saginaw River personnel are still fully mission capable."
The cause of the situation is unknown, and the matter is currently undergoing investigation.
