Congressman Sander Levin of Royal Oak announced over the weekend he will not run for re-election. Levin served in Congress for 35 years.

On an appearance on Detroit Today, the congressman shared his disappointment in the polarization that has befallen Congress in recent years.

“We don’t know each other; we don’t spend time with each other. It’s frightfully different, and I think America is short because of that.”

Levin says he hopes to continue to have an impact after retirement from Congress.

“I want to go to U of M, that’s the present plan, and try to help rebuild respect towards public institutions and in public institutions.”

Levin joins his brother, former Senator Carl Levin, who retired last year after 36 years in Congress.
