The state official heading the Flint water criminal probe insists they are not “starting over", even as the prosecution team is getting revamped.
Fadwa Hammoud is Michigan’s Solicitor General. She’s bringing in Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy to advise on the Flint water prosecution, as well as making other changes to the prosecution team.
“This is in no way…’we have to start over’…but there’s a new leadership.”
Hammoud declined to say if new charges may be filed, or if some existing cases may be dropped.
Meanwhile, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says she is taking a lead role in the negotiations over civil lawsuits filed against the state in the Flint water crisis.
Other members of the current team are moving into different roles.
Hammoud says it’s an appropriate time to review the investigation, but it doesn’t mean starting over.
“We’re not throwing everything out and starting from zero..”
While the new team gets up to speed, future court hearings for the remaining defendants will likely be put on hold.
