Three containerized data centers hum in Dafter Township, across the street from Lake Superior Academy, on June 19, 2025. Michael Carbonara's name appears on the permit application for this operation.

Multiple WCMU articles were temporarily scrubbed from Google search results after several bogus copyright claims were filed against the newsroom.

Both stories reported on a Florida congressional candidate's ties to a small data center operation in the eastern Upper Peninsula.

It's still unclear who submitted the claims.

“I couldn't find these entities," said Karen Post, an attorney with Trister, Ross, Schadler & Gold, PLLC, who filed an appeal with Google on WCMU's behalf. "I couldn't find any content that seemed related that allegedly WCMU would have copied from. The whole thing just seemed very suspicious.”

More on why the plagiarism claims were false and how the articles were restored on Google.

Plus, the latest headlines from across the region.
