A Local Perspective on a National Initiative
Great Lakes Jobs Explained is part of Jobs Explained, a public media initiative led by The WNET Group, New York City’s public media station. Building on more than a decade of work through American Graduate, the initiative takes a youth-centered, digital-first approach to career exploration.
Rather than relying on traditional broadcast-based engagement, Jobs Explained brings public media stations together to produce short-form vertical videos for popular social media platforms. The initiative highlights in-demand and civic-minded careers while connecting young people with education, training, and job opportunities.
As a partner station, WCMU Public Media brings a regional perspective to this collaborative effort, highlighting career pathways and employment opportunities relevant to Central and Northern Michigan.
Building Connections in Our Communities
Participating stations build on relationships with local businesses, chambers of commerce, educational institutions, and community organizations to develop content that reflects regional employment needs, training programs, and educational opportunities.
Through Great Lakes Jobs Explained, Elijah helps bring these career pathways into focus for young audiences, offering an accessible starting point for exploring possibilities and planning for the future.
