Fun for Everyone at the Earth Action Expo on April 26!

MIDLAND, Mich. – There will be something for everyone at the Earth Action Expo, a free event on Saturday, April 26, 2024 from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M. at H.H. Dow High School in Midland. Activities will be held both inside and outside. Engage with sustainability experts, conduct hands-on science experiments, fuel up at food trucks, and so much more– with 50+ exhibitors!

Bring your e-waste to the expo to be recycled by Resourceful Recycling! Items recycled for free include: keyboards/mice, printers, mobile phones, lamp fixtures, toner/ink cartridges, batteries, computers and other consumer electronics. For a small fee, TVs ($10-20), CRT monitors ($10), alkaline batteries ($0.70/lb) will also be accepted for recycling.

Stay for our Power Hour conversation, from 3:00 to 4:00 pm in the Dow High Media Center, to connect with individuals and organizations who share your passion and desire to TAKE ACTION!

Additional fun things to do:
● Hang out with live hawks and other rescued raptors
● Let a lamprey get “stuck” on you!
● Bring your bike for a free inspection
● Donate your used bikes & parts for refurbishing and recycling
● Drop into the textile lab and learn how to crochet with plarn (plastic yarn), and repurpose t-shirts into reusable bags, jump ropes and dog toys.
● Get close and personal with EVs (electric vehicles), and talk with their owners
● Join us for Story Time to learn about glaciers and things you can do to help the earth!
● Take a spin on an e-bike (helmets will be provided)
● Help break a world record for the most origami fish
● Dive into the Delta College STEM bus
● Learn about native plants and pollinators
● Go on a scavenger hunt in the Great Lakes Watershed
● Take home a free white pine sapling and watch it grow!

● 12:00 p.m. Food Waste/Food Security - Samantha McKenzie, Hidden Harvest & Jennifer Grace, Arnold Farms
● 12:45 p.m. Mountains of Ice: How the Glaciers Shaped Michigan. Ian Sanders, Chippewa Nature Center
● 1:30 p.m. Greenland: A Crucially Important Landscape - Peter Sinclair
● 2:15 p.m. Sun101 - Energy, Environment, and a Vibrant Economy - Peter Sinclair

In addition to the exhibitors, dozens of illustrated poems authored by local kids and teens themed “Glaciers: Hot Topics, Cool Chemistry” will be displayed at the Expo. All were entries in a local contest sponsored by the Midland Section of the American Chemical Society. “It's so amazing to see these local students' poems displayed all together! Their creativity and perspective about science is truly inspiring, and it’s a great example of how art and science can come together in such a fun and meaningful way.” said Lauren Honaman of Midland Center for the Arts.
