The Higher Learning Commission is reviewing a complaint alleging that the University of Michigan falsified grades. The Commission is the accrediting institution for U of M. The complaint says faculty were told to submit winter term grades for all students.
That's even if faculty didn't have grade-related information from graduate instructors, who are on strike.
Amir Fleischmann is with GEO, the union representing graduate student instructors.
The union submitted the complaint.
"For classes where a graduate student was the sole instructor, this could only mean completely fabricated grades that are not based on students' performance in any way," he says.
U of M has denied those allegations.
A university spokesman says the University is confident it acted ethically, but looks forward to fully engaging with the Commission's review.
