Election officials from across the Saginaw Bay Region will discuss concerns about election integrity on Oct. 5 at Delta College.
Delta College is hosting a panel to inform students and residents on policies in place to protect ballot security in Michigan.
According to data from Gallup Democracy for All project and the Kettering Foundation, more than half of Americans reported at least a fair amount of concern about the election process.
In addition, data from the University of Michigan shows only 37% of voters in the state are 'very confident' in the ability of other communities to administer fair elections.
The election officials will address common concerns voters may have ahead of the midterms.
It's moderated by Delta College Political Science Professor Lisa Lawrason.
“Confidence in election outcomes is essential for the survival of democracy,” Lawrason said," Lawrason said in a press release.
“If people don’t trust the peaceful means elections provide to change the government, then they will resort to non-peaceful actions to get the change they want.”
The panelists include Bay County Clerk Kathleen Zanotti, Saginaw County Clerk Vanessa Guerra, Midland County Director of Elections Ann Manary and Midland County Deputy Clerk John Keefer.
“These clerks are on the front lines of democracy, ensuring that every vote is counted, every voice is heard,” Lawrason said.
Students and residents can attend the event in the Delta College Lecture Theater, G160.
