Food assistance benefits for March and April will be released early in Michigan.

Bob Wheaton, a spokesperson for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, said the department is phasing back to a regular schedule by releasing the benefits early after the partial government shutdown.

“We issued the February food assistance benefits at the request of the federal government starting on Jan 17 and that resulted in a pretty significant gap between when people received their February benefits which was in mid jan and when they would receive their march benefits,” Wheaton said.

Benefits in May are expected to return to the normal schedule.
