Tom Ball

Corporate Support & Marketing Representative / Host of Homespun

Tom Ball is the host of 'Homespun' on WCMU, and is also a marketing representative for the station. He is responsible for securing program sponsorships for both WCMU Public Radio and WCMU Public Television. 

Tom has been married for nearly 20 years to his lovely and talented wife Diana. They have one cat, and a yard full of beautiful flowers (no thanks to him!). Tom has been associated with WCMU for over 35 years, doing everything from fundraising, to filling in for vacationing staff members, to even taking out the trash! 

  • …On Homespun this week, we say “Happy Mother’s Day” with songs from Lynn Morris, The Gibson Brothers, and the singing brakeman, Jimmie Rodgers! We’ll also sample new music from Paper Wings, Tony Trischka, and turn back to 1972 for a classic from singer/songwriter Eric Anderson!
  • …Carson Peters, and Claire Lynch give us some of their new music this week on Homespun, and Memphis Slim, along with Sonny & Brownie check in with some blues!-That plus Robin & Linda Williams, Kieren Kane & Ryana Gellert, and much much more!
  • …Homespun this week brings new sounds from Trey Hensley, Darin & Brooke Aldridge, and The Milk Carton Kids. We’ll also get Old Timey with The Bootlickers, Kettle Bog, and spins from songwriters James McMurtry, and J.D. Souther.
  • Springtime is coming around again with flowers and plants poking through! On Homespun this week we’ll sprout new music from Tony Trischka and Jim Hurst! We’ll also hear some early Ray Bonneville, and celebrate the 30th Anniversary release of Gillian Welch’s debut album “Revival”.
  • ….Spring is finally, Sprung, and on Homespun this week we’ll spend time with new tracks from Trey Hensley and The Appalachian Roadshow! We’ll also get our fiddles on with The Foghorn Stringband. Spencer & Rains, and solo Howard Rains, plus some early classics from Linda Thompson, Stephen Stills and Shelby Lynne!
  • Easter is nearly upon us, and Homespun this week celebrates this most holy time of the year with tracks from The Poplin Family, The Dixie Hummingbirds, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Hot Rize, Johnny Cash and more.
  • …Homespun this week prepares for “The Day of the Festival of Patrick” or St. Patrick’s Day, as we spend the hour with the music of The Chieftains, The Bothy Band, Len Graham, Dick Gaughan, DeDanann, and much more!
  • …This week’s Homespun wishes a melancholy Happy Trails to two of the great fingerstyle folk/blues musicians, Roy Bookbinder and John Hammond. We’ll spin selections by both as well as tracks from Alison Brown, Lynn Miles, Carson Peters, and Shawn Colvin.
