On Monday morning, the Michigan Bureau of Elections (BOE) sent letters to township clerks in Antrim County with a list of voters whose voter status was improperly changed by county clerk Victoria Bishop.

Township clerks have until July 24th to notify the BOE of any voter whose status was changed by Bishop that does need to be updated in the Qualified Voter Files.

After July 24th passed, the BOE will send letters by mail to each remaining changed-status voter, notifying them that the changes made by the County Clerk will be reversed.

Voters should begin to receive those letters around July 28 or 29, just a week before the primary election on August 4th.

Janet Beebe is the clerk for Milton Township. She says that despite the doubt sown by Bishop's actions, the elections are still running smoothly.

"Honestly, other than making the voters more uncertain about the security of elections, it hasn't done anything to impact us," Beebe told IPR.

Victoria Bishop's access to the Qualified Voter Files was revoked in June by the Bureau of Elections, following an investigation into unauthorized changes and cancellations made to the voter rolls by Bishop.

A petition to recall Bishop from her position as county clerk is currently being reviewed by the state Board of Canvassers.

Voters in Antrim County who are concerned about their registration status are encouraged to contact their township clerk.
